The Video on the Net Alliance is a global consortium of Internet-based video content and application providers, vendors and enablers, and other affiliated entities and individuals helping to drive innovation and deployment of Internet-based video. The Video on the Net Alliance is committed to fulfilling the promise of Internet-based video by promoting a pragmatic and light-handed regulatory approach and public policy environment based on self-governance and public-private partnerships to address social issues in the use of Internet-based video. The Video on the Net Alliance shall pursue the following objectives:
- Develop a framework for global public policy that will preserve and promote the unregulated nature of Internet-based video.
- Promote innovation, deployment and adoption of Internet-based video content, applications, services and products.
- Support forward-looking processes to ensure that Internet-based video products, services and applications advance the social good.
- Ensure that users worldwide are allowed, to the fullest extent practical and economically feasible, to control their own Internet, media, entertainment and communications experience.
- Work directly, and in cooperation with others to demonstrate to governments around the world that the Internet-based video industry is socially responsible and capable of self-governance.
